Donald Carter, the Dallas Mavericks' co-founder and first majority owner, died Wednesday night at the age of 84.
The Dallas County medical examiner's office confirmed Carter's death, but as of Thursday morning could not provide additional details.
Two sources told The Dallas Morning News on Wednesday night that emergency medical personnel were called to Carter's condominium in Dallas' Residences of Stoneleigh.
Carter, the Mavericks' majority owner from 1980 to 1996, had in recent years been in declining health. He attended the Mavericks' season opener, but was unable to attend longtime Maverick Derek Harper's Jan.
