Dirk Nowitzki to miss remainder of the season after surgery

Dirk Nowitzki underwent surgical debridement on his left ankle Thursday morning and will miss the remainder of the season, according to a report by Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News.

The surgery is to correct an ankle impingement, which is linked to bone spurs, and eliminate inflammation. It was performed by Dr. Eugene Curry and Dr. Daniel Worrel at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas. Nowitzki did not travel with the team for its game against the Orlando Magic Wednesday.

Nowitzki appeared in 77 games and is enjoying one of the best shooting seasons of his career despite his lowest scoring output since his rookie season.
