It’s one thing to know a fact, to have it so ingrained in your understanding of the world that you don’t really consider what that fact means, relative to everything else. It’s something else entirely to see that fact in action or to have a visual of the fact to place it in a new light.
At least, that’s how I reacted to this Kirk Goldsberry visualization, looking at 31 zones of shooting and which player owned those areas over the last quarter century.
If you really look at this, one thing stands out in a hurry: Dirk Nowitzki owns the most zones, six in fact.
