Having missed the Mavericks' past two games with a stomach bug and sore Achilles, Dirk Nowitzki returned to practice Tuesday, then accompanied the team to Utah.
Coach Rick Carlisle, however, stopped short of saying Nowitzki will definitely play Wednesday when the Mavericks (0-3) face the Jazz. After all, Nowitzki also accompanied the team to Houston and planned to play Sunday against the Rockets, but was a late scratch.
"We'll have an alternative plan like we've had the last couple of games, but it's a tough situation to be in," Carlisle said. "If he's unable to go and not quite right, we can't put him in harm's way.
