An investigation by Deadspin has brought to light a 2000 rape conviction of Pete Philo, who later served as an international scout for the Mavericks (2003-2006), director of scouting for the Timberwolves (2006-2013) and director of international scouting for the Pacers (2013-2016).
Through a spokesperson, the Mavericks on Friday declined to comment to The News.
Philo has forged friendships and earned respect throughout the NBA for his scouting acumen, most recently as the founder of TPG Sports, a North Carolina-based consulting and events company. On June 19 he tweeted that he was resigning.
