The Dallas Mavericks drafted Ray Spalding in the late second round. Most experts thought Spalding was destined for a two-way contract, but that was not the case. He signed a four-year deal with the Mavericks. The contract was team-friendly and includes non-guarantee dates for each of the next three seasons.
Spalding has only played in one game with the Mavs, though. He saw one minute of action in the season opener against the Suns. Phoenix had the game in hand when Spalding entered the contest in the final moments. He is firmly behind Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber in the team’s bench big man pecking order.
