The Dallas Mavericks took a massive swing in trading for Kristaps Porzingis at the end of January. The 7’3 big man from Latvia was an All-Star in 2018 and is still only 23 years old. He is recovering from a torn ACL, though. The Mavericks definitely took on some risk when you couple Porzingis’ injury with the cost (Dennis Smith Jr. and two future first round picks) to acquire him.
Shortly after the trade, news broke that Kristaps would not play at all this season. That means he enters restricted free agency this summer after missing a full year-plus of action.
