The Dallas Mavericks signed an undrafted free agent named Daryl Macon to a two-way contract last summer. Macon was coming off two seasons at the University of Arkansas where he averaged over 15 points per game and shot north of 40 percent on his 3-pointers.
Macon had already turned 22, though. That hurt his draft stock. In the second round, organizations love to take a young 19-year-old raw talent over an established college player. They shoot for upside over safety.
There were also questions about Macon’s playmaking ability. He averaged just 3.9 assists per game in final NCAA season.
