After mid-season return, Bernard James hopes to find home with Mavs this summer

DALLAS — It’s been an interesting journey for center Bernard James since he entered the NBA as the 33rd overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Acquired in a draft-night deal with Cleveland, James joined the Dallas Mavericks with the odds stacked up against him as a second-round pick. The 6-foot-10 big man then quickly earned a spot in the rotation as a rookie, starting 11 games and appearing in 46 outings during the ’12-13 season while averaging 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in his first campaign.

Waived in the summer following his rookie season, James rejoined the team prior to Year 2 after an impressive showing in the Las Vegas Summer League.
