We’re in the beginning stages of the Dallas Mavericks' offseason preparations, and there are plenty of plots and subplots to follow during July’s free agent push. Here's what you needto know about their free agency plans:
Tyson Chandler Signs Four-Year, $52 Million Deal With Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns have signed center Tyson Chandler to a four-year, $52 million deal, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
The move means that Phoenix has committed all of its salary-cap space to sign Chandler away from the Dallas Mavericks in order to pair him with guards Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe as the Suns' new cornerstones.
Dallas had wanted to re-sign Chandler if they weren't able to sign DeAndre Jordan, and the Suns capitalized on that by making Chandler a priority for them.
Dallas to target Wesley Matthews
Matthews is one of the best two-way shooting guards in the league and is due for a big pay day. He’s another guy who will demand a little less than the max (especially after he suffered a torn ACL this season), but for the Hornets, he could be worth every penny of it. Matthews led the NBA in three-pointers made before he got hurt, giving Dallas a premier threat from the outside. Dallas will likely see what happens with bigger name targets before offering Matthews a contract, but there is definite interest from both sides.
Mavs to meet with Derrick Williams
Dallas will meet with former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams in the coming days, according to multiple reports. Williams has not lived up to expectations since being drafted in 2011, but his athleticism and energy have made him an effective, though inconsistent, spark off the bench.
