Dallas Mavericks trade rumors have the Mavs linked to Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Hassan Whiteside. As Luka Doncic continues to make a case for league MVP and Kristaps Porzingis knocks off the rust, the Mavericks are 11-5 and one piece away from being a true contender in the Western Conference. Jimmy breaks down what trades for Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Hassan Whiteside would look like; plus why the Sacramento Kings passed on drafting Luka Doncic and went with Marvin Bagley instead in 2018.
Luka Doncic is already playing like an MVP in his early career but that didn’t matter to Valde Divac and the Kings. Reportedly, the reason the Kings passed on selecting Luka Donic in the 2018 NBA draft was because Vlade didn’t like Luka Doncic’s father. To be fair, the Kings didn’t need another ball-dominant guard with De’Aaron Fox on the roster. However, Luka went on to win the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year award and has been red hot in his sophomore season.
The Mavericks aren’t afraid of making a splash when it comes to trades, so could the team be looking to make yet another trade as they continue on their quest for a title? One name that’s been floated is Blake Griffin as a “swing for the fences” kind of trade. Griffin wouldn’t come cheap, and he’s not getting any younger. Blake Griffin is making $34 million this season, $37 million in the 2020-2021 season, and $39 million in the 2021-2022 season. Could the Mavs consider trading away Jalen Burnson to give the Piston’s a much needed point guard of the future? Jimmy gives his answer IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW.

Trade rumors are also buzzing around Kevin Love who despite playing for a struggling Cavs team, is averaging a double-double this season. However, Kevin Love is 31 and is known for being injured often. So what’s a trade look like to get 31-year-old Kevin Love? Dallas would ship off Tim Hardaway Jr., Jalen Brunson, Justin Jackson and the 2020 2nd-round pick from Utah. Kevin Love would give the Mavs a shooter who can stretch the floor and add another layer to the already dynamic offense. Also, Kevin Love provides great rebounding and championship experience to help lead Luka and Co. all the way.
Trading for Hassan Whiteside? Jimmy says pass. Whiteside’s stats may jump out at you, he’s averaging 12 boards, 14.9 points and 1.8 blocks, but they don’t tell the entire story. Hassan Whiteside is a low-effort guy, drawing comparisons to Rajon Rondo’s stint with the Mavs in 2014-15. Does the benefit of Hassan Whiteside as a rebounder/shot blocker outweigh the possible risks that accompany the trade?
