The Dallas Mavericks announced that they signed Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to a deal after he was bought out by the Charlotte Hornets this past week. Kidd-Gilchrist is a former #2 overall pick in the NBA Draft but has fallen out of the rotation in Charlotte. Kidd-Gilchrist is expected to bring a level of defensive intensity and versatility that the Mavericks are desperately missing. Rick Carlisle expects him to play at both the four and five positions, but he could also see some time at the small forward position by checking guys like LeBron James, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and more elite wings in the Western Conference.

When the Mavericks signed Michael Kidd-Gilcrhist, they had to open up a roster spot and decided to do so by waiving Ryan Broekhoff. Broekhoff was a free agent signing two summers ago and has proven himself as a valuable shooter off the bench for the Dallas Mavericks, but his contract was non-guaranteed which made it easier for the Mavericks to waive him for nearly nothing. The Mavericks were also likely considering waiving Courtney Lee and Justin Jackson, but both of them have more money promised to them. Courtney Lee has proven himself as a valuable veteran the past few games, and Justin Jackson.

If the Dallas Mavericks are still considering signing another player to guard the wing position, a guy like Moe Harkless might be a name to consider for Dallas. The New York Knicks acquired Harkless from the Clippers in the trade that landed Marcus Morris in Los Angeles. Harkless may be pursuing a buyout from the Knicks as he is a veteran looking to make a difference on a Playoff contender. Harkless had some really good years in Portland and could easily step in as a wing defender and scorer when needed.
