The Dallas Mavericks are 1-3 in the preseason, but some clear winners and losers have already begun to emerge for the Mavs. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis did not play in the Mavs first preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they made their debut together against the Detroit Pistons. Both Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis shined in that game as Luka looked like the reigning Rookie of the Year that he is, and Kristaps Porzingis got back to his unicorn ways.

Justin Jackson is currently fighting to be the fifth starter for the Dallas Mavericks as one of the primary wings on the team. He is currently competing against Dorian Finney-Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. for that final starting spot. The assumed starters for now are Delon Wright, Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and Dwight Powell. Jackson is making a strong case to be the next starter in Dallas along with those four.
Another big winner for the Mavericks has been second-year point guard Jalen Brunson. He has been aggressive on the offensive end and has shown promise as the primary back-up point guard for Dallas. He will be running the offensive a lot in the second unit.
The two biggest losers for the Mavs so far in preseason have been Seth Curry and JJ Barea. Curry has not been looking for his shot as aggressively as many expected him to be, and it has shown in his lack of minutes played. JJ Barea, coming off a torn achilles, still has room to go in his recovery process and has taken a backseat to Jalen Brunson as the back-up point guard.
