In today's Mavs news update, the Dallas Mavericks could find themselves on the shortlist of teams that New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony would consider in a potential free agency scenario.
Per Marc Stein of ESPN.com, Carmelo Anthony has until June 23rd to notify the Knicks about whether or not he plans to opt out of his current contract and test the free agent market, or remain under his current deal for the 2014-15 NBA season.
According to Stein, "the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are all teams Anthony would consider starting July 1, sources say, if the 30-year-old decides to become a free agent this summer."
The Dallas Mavericks had been listed as a dark horse to land Anthony's services when rumors first started popping up about him leaving New York. Those ruminations have picked up steam over the past several weeks, especially with a potential rift brewing between Melo and Knicks president Phil Jackson.
The Mavs remain, in Stein's words, "quietly optimistic" that they would be granted a face-to-face meeting with Anthony in the event that he decides to opt out.
