In this Mavs rumors and news update, the Dallas Mavericks are reportedly bowing out of the race for Miami Heat superstar LeBron James - shifting their focus towards Houston Rockets free agent Chandler Parsons and a couple of other second-tier options.
Per ESPN's Chris Broussard (via Dan Feldman of Pro Basketball Talk), the Mavericks are also potentially dropping out of the sweepstakes for New York Knicks free agent Carmelo Anthony:
Dallas, believing it will likely lose out on both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, will attempt to sign Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets. The Mavericks also have Luol Deng and Trevor Ariza in their sights, sources said.
As with everything at this time of year, take the Mavericks' rumored acceptance of losing out on Melo and LeBron as just that - rumor.
If LeBron James indeed places himself on the open market after Wednesday's conversation with Heat president Pat Riley, don't be surprised if the Mavericks at least make some sort of overture towards James and his representation - regardless of their chances at success in landing the four-time NBA MVP.
