Mavs News Update: Eric Bledsoe a free agent option for Mavs?

In today's Mavs news update, with a crowded field ready to make their pitches to both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James after July 1st, the Dallas Mavericks have to brace for the possibility of landing neither superstar.

If that were to happen, Texas Three Step blogger Mark Davis has a clear Plan C for the Dallas Mavericks - sign Phoenix Suns guard to a maximum offer sheet:

Bledsoe may very well be the most impactful guard defender in the league, too, and though a Bledsoe/Ellis backcourt is small, its about the same height-wise as Phoenix’s current pairing of Bledsoe and Goran Dragic. Having Bledsoe would allow Carlisle to mix and match his defensive assignments depending on the opponent, which is critically important. He could have Bledsoe take the more threatening of the opposing guards and be comfortable with his choice, unlike last season when he was forced to pick between a car wreck and a dumpster fire any time he put Ellis or Calderon on an imposing scorer. And let’s not forget how great a Bledsoe/Chandler pairing would be defending high pick-and-rolls.

Bledsoe's dynamism could be a wonderful consolation prize for a Mavericks team who remains cautiously optimistic about their chances in the Melo/LBJ sweepstakes.
