The Dallas Mavericks entered Sunday's action with a historically impressive offensive rating, posting 114.5 points per 100 possessions. With as many weapons as the Mavs have, it's been an embarrassment of riches for the team so far during the 2014-15 NBA season.
However, Dallas has been held to a relatively mediocre 101.5 points per 100 possessions in its last three games, signaling to future Hall-of-Famer Dirk Nowitzki that the team's offensive game plan must remain fluid.
“Obviously the other teams have been watching what we’re doing,” Nowitzki said, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas. “I don’t think that’s a secret. They’re mixing it up some. Some of the teams are going under our pick-and-rolls and keeping us out of the lane a little bit more. That obviously means the big guy doesn’t have to help as much and our weakside shooters aren’t as open. We’ve got to find some counters."
Nowitzki also provided a reality check to those who think the Mavs are going to score at unprecedented levels all season long.
“Teams are going to scout us and we’re not going to score 140 every night,” he said.
