With the Dallas Mavericks entrenched in a dogfight for their playoff lives in a stacked Western Conference, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is taking to the media to provide his own brand of inspiration to superstar Dirk Nowitzki.
Per Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Cuban spoke with members of the media before Monday's 94-89 home victory over the Boston Celtics, showcasing rare criticism for Nowitzki in regard to a conversation they had earlier in the day--
“I think sometimes he loses concentration, and I think we’ve got to get past that,” Cuban stated. “I mentioned it to him today. I asked him how his nap was during the game (Sunday at Oklahoma City). He laughed. At least that’s while I was facing him. When I turned my back and walked away, I don’t know.”
Dirk Nowitzki posted just two first quarter rebounds in the 109-86 victory in Oklahoma City, finishing with just 17 points and 4 rebounds on the night. Cuban's criticism was also intensified by his feelings over Nowitzki's rough outing at Golden State last week, posting just 12 point and six rebounds in a 108-85 blowout loss.
Asked why he would take to the public to criticize the future NBA Hall-of-Famer, the Dallas Mavericks owner bluntly stated,“that’s only because I did it already personally.”
“I’m allowed to call him out once every 10 years,” Cuban quipped.
The Dallas Mavericks face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night in game two of a pivotal eight-game homestand.
