The Dallas Mavericks should be a very interesting team to follow when the 2014 NBA free agency period begins this offseason.
The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to several possible max contract options such as LeBron James and Chris Bosh, but it is the current king of New York who is garnering the most questions and buzz from Mavericks fans.
ESPNDallas.com Dallas Mavericks insider Tim McMahon fielded an inquiry today about whether he thought New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony would consider the Dallas Mavericks as an option over New York or Los Angeles, and McMahon answered the question as honestly as he could--
"I'm skeptical, to say the least. It's well known that his wife, the beautiful and apparently talented La La, wants to be in one of the biggest media markets. And as much as Melo says it's all about winning for him now, I'll believe that he'll leave more than $30 million on the table when I see it."
McMahon went on to say that the signing wouldn't make much fiscal sense for the Dallas Mavericks: "The Mavs would have to do some significant roster trimming to free up that much cap space (Anthony would command a 4-year contract worth $95.9 million), unless Dirk took a historically unprecedented pay cut."
It remains to be seen if other top-tier 2014 free agents present better fits for the Dallas Mavericks, but as it stands, the Mavs may be on the outside looking in on the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes.
