The Dallas Mavericks enter the 2018 offseason with a top 10 pick for the second consecutive year, and while they're hoping to land another franchise cornerstone in the draft, they're also looking to add a key piece to their core in free agency, where they have the cap space to sign a superstar-caliber player. Here are the three players they are the most likely to sign:
1) Julius Randle
Randle will likely be the odd man out in Los Angeles this summer. He is a restricted free agent, but with them pursuing two max-level free agents, they are unlikely to match any offers for him. That would play right into Dallas' hands, as they're in desperate of youth and talent in their frontcourt. Randle is also from the Dallas area and has the athleticism and playmaking ability to be a perfect complement to Dennis Smith Jr. Expect them to offer him a sizable contract.
2) Jabari Parker
Another restricted free agent, Milwaukee doesn't appear to be willing to spend big bucks to retain Parker, meaning he could be had by a talent-needy team like the Mavs. Although he's already dealt with two ACL tears in his young career, he's a very versatile scorer when healthy and has proven to be an excellent stretch four. His defense is somewhat of a concern, but if Dallas misses out on Randle, Parker will be the guy they pursue next.
3) DeAndre Jordan
Dallas nearly signed Jordan last time he hit free agency and may get their second chance this summer. The Clippers are clearly rebuilding and the Mavs can pitch him on being a star in their core alongside Dennis Smith Jr. and their likely top-five pick. Dallas can't pitch Jordan on winning now, but will a max deal, a return to Texas, and a promising future be enough to land him?
