Since the start of the NFL supplemental draft back in 1977, the Dallas Cowboys have selected five players during this post-draft after-thought. The last player the Cowboys drafted during this unusual event was Illinois nose tackle Josh Brent back in 2010.
The NFL supplemental draft is made up of college prospects that, for one reason or another, could not be selected in the standard NFL draft that took place in April. In order to draft a player in this seven-round event, a team forfeits their corresponding selection in next’s year regular draft.
The most famous player the Cowboys ever drafted in the supplemental draft was Miami quarterback Steve Walsh in 1989, which cost the team what would have been the number one overall pick in the 1990 draft.
