Ezekiel Elliott's fate hangs in the balance at an undisclosed location in New York. As his appeal apparently stretches into a third consecutive day, one conclusion can be drawn:

Expect the league's leading rusher to play in the Cowboys opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 10.

Nothing is definitive, but the prolonged hearing -- part of his camp's strategy from the start? -- appears to lay the groundwork for him to be available for the team's regular season debut against its division rival.

Here's the procedural timetable. If the hearing ends Thursday, both sides have three business days to file final briefs unless an agreement is reached to waive that step.
