When Tony Romo worked his first Cowboys game as CBS's lead analyst last November 5, it was a homecoming that had all the feels, most of which were positive.
The Cowboys were 4-3, having rebounded from a 2-3 start by posting blowout wins over San Francisco and Washington. Dallas was averaging 28.3 points under Romo's second-year replacement, Dak Prescott. Most early-season struggles were attributed to "Zeke Elliott suspension distractions."
The Cowboys organization feted Romo with a surprise video tribute and a massive "Welcome Home 9" banner at AT&T Stadium. In the booth, Romo was complimentary of Prescott as he threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-17 victory over Kansas City.
