Tyron Smith bothered by back tightness; Cowboys not too worried

OXNARD, Calif. -- Tyron Smith missed his second straight day of practice with tightness in his back, but Jason Garrett said the Dallas Cowboys are not concerned about the long-term health of the All-Pro tackle.

Smith missed two games last season with a back injury. He did not undergo offseason surgery as the Cowboys hoped rest would take care of the issue.

“I don’t know that it’s necessarily related,” Garrett said. “His back was bothering him a little bit, it was tight, so we’ll just take it day by day and we’ll see how he responds.”

Smith was unlikely to play in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Arizona Cardinals as most of the playing time will go the younger players.
