Mike McCarthy was done for. The Dallas Cowboys were in the middle of a five-game losing streak, their longest since 2015, and the team looked lost even before Dak Prescott went down for the year. McCarthy, who is coaching on the last year of his contract, was a dead man walking.
That may no longer be the case.
To be clear, the odds of McCarthy sticking around in Dallas after this year are still extremely low. The team has ripped off two straight wins, both against division foes, to reach 5-7. They’re a distant third in the NFC East behind the Commanders, who snapped their losing streak with a big win over the Titans to get to 8-5.
