Stephen Jones: Byron Jones capable of doing whatever we ask; rookie gets work at first-team safety

ARLINGTON – When the Cowboys opened in their pre-practice walk-through Monday, Byron Jones was working with the first team at safety.

Starting safety J.J. Wilcox didn’t practice because of a sore neck.

Jones, the Cowboys’ first-round pick, continues to get work at safety and corner. He played both positions in Saturday’s preseason game.

“Not all guys could do it,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan’s G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. “I think he’s unique in terms of the positions that he’s playing. He’s playing nickel, he’s playing dime, he’s playing press corner, he’s playing free safety, and he seems to have a grasp for it.
