Source: NFL reinstates Cowboys DE Randy Gregory

Cowboys defensive end has been reinstated to the NFL, a source told SportsDay's Jori Epstein on Tuesday afternoon.

Gregory had been banned from the NFL for repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy. He hasn't taken the field since the Cowboys' final game of the 2016 season.

Gregory worked on the paperwork and other steps in April and May, including going before commissioner Roger Goodell to petition for his reinstatement.

Recently there had been a growing, yet ever-so-cautious optimism among team officials that Gregory could return for the 2018 season. A handful of teammates and several other acquaintances have voiced their support for Gregory to the NFL.
