Signing in July gives Dallas' Justin Durant offseason respite

OXNARD, California -- Justin Durant has the NFL system beat.

For the second time in as many years, Durant did not take part in an offseason program, a somewhat tedious nine-week course that includes 12 practices that don't come in pads and a number of weight-room sessions designed mostly to make sure the teams know what a player is doing in the offseason.

Last year, Durant signed with the Dallas Cowboys on July 18, 2016. This year, the veteran linebacker signed with the Cowboys on July 20.

"Everybody's saying that," Durant said, of beating the system.
