The NFC East played, collectively, the worst defense in the NFL last season.
The Cowboys ranked 17th in defense but tied a league-record low with their 11 takeaways and also finished 25th in sacks. The Redskins finished 28th in defense, the Eagles 30th and the Giants 32nd.
The Denver Broncos reminded us last February that defense can still win championships, and the Giants were the only team in the East to make a concerted effort this offseason to fix what ailed them on that side of the ball a year ago. New York's new-look defense will get its first exposure Sunday in the season opener against the Cowboys.
