The Dallas Cowboys have had plenty of late-round draft success stories in their history, but none other comes close to Roger Staubach.
Selecting Staubach in the 10th round of the 1964 draft showed just how much ahead of the game the Cowboys were under Tex Schramm, Tom Landry and Gil Brandt.
Even though he had a year of eligibility left at the Naval Academy, the Cowboys were able to select him as a futures pick, knowing he would need to fulfill his military commitment.
He was a 27-year-old rookie who became a Hall of Fame quarterback, leader of America’s Team, Super Bowl winner, Captain America and Captain Comeback.
