Jerry on Garrett contract: Working without a net

INDIANAPOLIS -- On multiple occasions this offseason, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has heaped praise on Jason Garrett, but it has not altered his mind about giving his coach a new contract.

Garrett enters 2019 on the final year of a five-year, $30 million deal he signed in 2015, which came after the first time he was coaching for his future and directed the Cowboys to a 12-4 record and a spot in the playoffs.

If Jones loves Garrett so much, why wouldn't he give the coach a longer deal?

"Well, I just like the dynamics considering the relationship we have, the trust we have, our goals," Jones said during a wide-ranging, 50-minute interview on the team's luxury bus from the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
