FRISCO -- A few days after Gil Brandt helped guide Jerry Jones through his first draft as the Cowboys owner, the two met in the scouting department of the team's Valley Ranch facility.
The meeting was as tense as it was awkward. Jones informed the team's personnel director that he was bleeding $29,000 a day. Changes were necessary. Brandt was out.
Reporters were standing in the hallway as the meeting broke up.
"What do you think?'' Jones remembers the reporters asking Brandt.
Brandt looked back at where the meeting had taken place, turned to the media and replied:
"That guy in there is in over his head.
