Jerry Jones has rediscovered his hardball ways in the Cowboys' negotiations with Ezekiel Elliott

OXNARD, Calif. -- Surprised by the absence of Ezekiel Elliott for training camp, Cowboys management has gone to an old-school response we haven't seen around here in years.

Jerry Jones is back to playing hardball.

It began softly enough Friday when Jones announced that Elliott was late to camp and that the team was used to these sorts of things -- "This is the air we breathe," Jones said -- but the Cowboys owner and general manager went on to say there would be no daily updates.

Apparently, he meant that only in the most literal sense regarding contract numbers.
