OXNARD, Calif. -- Jaylon Smith spends much of his day running sprints with an elastic cord around his waist while Dallas Cowboys rehab specialist Britt Brown holds the other end of the cord.
Smith, the Cowboys’ second-round pick in this year's draft, is rehabbing his surgically-repaired ACL in his left knee while hoping the nerve damage he suffered regenerates. He’s also only eight months removed from knee surgery, which is why he’s not expected to play this season.
Smith won’t play until the nerve starts firing. That said, Smith said he’s been able to do some lateral movements and some vertical running, but no timetable exists for his return.
