Jason Witten: ‘Last year was good, but we’re trying to be better than that’

As players cleaned out their Valley Ranch lockers a day after the season-ending loss in Green Bay, it was difficult not to notice a large canvas photo sitting in front of the stall spaces belonging to Jason Witten, Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray.

The picture was of the three standing together on the sideline during the Cowboys’ Week 17 win in Washington. Murray had become close friends with Romo and Witten.

But Murray left for Philadelphia in March after the two sides were unable to reach a contract extension. As much as Witten would’ve liked his friend to remain a Cowboy, he’s learned over his 12 years in the NFL, the business side of football makes it difficult to keep all of the pieces together.
