A week before Christmas, when the Class 5A Division I high school football state championship game was almost complete, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his wife, Gene, looked down from their suite at AT&T Stadium. On the sidelines, their grandson, Highland Park quarterback John Stephen Jones, was at the center of a sea of blue and yellow jerseys.
When the clock hit zero, the Scots had beaten the Temple Wildcats 16-7. Students rushed the field. Within moments, the quarterback was deep in the arms of his elated father.
Stephen Jones wrapped his son in a bear hug.
