Prior to the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys depth chart at running back appeared to be full. First round selection Ezekiel Elliott had recently joined a roster that already bolstered veteran runners Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris, Lance Dunbar and Rod Smith.
There really wasn’t any room left for another running back in Dallas. Especially considering the Cowboys needs in other areas, specifically on the defensive side of the ball.
Yet, the Cowboys opted to use two of their four sixth round picks on offensive players.
