When the Dallas Cowboys started training camp this week, they had four quarterbacks on their depth chart. Then, on Wednesday, Zac Dysert bent over to pick up a bag in his room at training camp and promptly hurt his back.
Dysert, whom the Cowboys claimed off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals early last month, has now had season-ending surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. His sudden absence left only veteran Kellen Moore and undrafted rookie Cooper Rush to back-up starter Dak Prescott in Dallas.
With the Hall of Fame game less than a week away, and Prescott unlikely to play many snaps (if any) during the contest with the Cardinals, the Cowboys needed to find a veteran quarterback to help fill the void.
