Bernardrick McKinney played quarterback and linebacker in high school, but moved to the defensive huddle full-time upon arrival at MSU. After redshirting in 2011, he started the final 10 games at middle linebacker the following campaign, leading all SEC freshmen and finishing second nationally with 102 total tackles, enough to garner All-SEC Freshman honors.
