OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys linebacker Andrew Gachkar returned home to have surgery on a broken thumb suffered in Thursday’s practice.
He is likely to be ready right around the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants. Coach Jason Garrett said the injury occurred in seven-on-seven drills in which a pass caused a small break that required the operation.
He is the second Cowboy forced to return to Dallas for surgery, joining quarterback Kellen Moore, who had surgery Wednesday to repair a broken right fibula. He is expected to miss 3-4 months.
