5 Cowboys free agents most likely to depart: TE Gavin Escobar hasn't made much impact for a second-round pick

The free agency period for NFL players begins at 3 p.m. March 9, and the Dallas Cowboys won't try or be able to re-sign all 18 of their unrestricted free agents.

Over a five-day period, we're counting down five Cowboys free agents who are likely to depart in 2017:

No. 2: Tight end Gavin Escobar

Type: Unrestricted

2016 impact: The Cowboys needed more than they got from Escobar in 2016, which has been the case for most of his tenure. He recovered faster than expected from suffering a torn Achilles tendon late in the 2015 season but had a hard time getting on the field even with tight end James Hanna out for the season to a knee injury and after tight end Geoff Swaim was lost for the season after tearing his right pectoral muscle in November against Pittsburgh.
