With the regular season over, the Dallas Cowboys have turned their attention to the offseason. The team's first priority is re-signing its own players, and the Cowboys have several key contributors they need to bring back next season - but also those they need they need to get rid of. Here are three players the Cowboys may cut this offseason:
QB Tony Romo
Dallas is largely expected to part ways with Tony Romo this offseason, no matter what Jerry Jones may say publicly. They are more than $5.5 million over the cap, and with Romo's cap number of $24.7 million, it makes way too much sense to get rid of him instead of paying him to be a backup. The Cowboys will try to trade him away first, but if they are unable to reach a deal, they'll cut him.
DT Tyrone Crawford
Crawford is Dallas' second-highest paid defensive player, but injuries have largely limited his potential. The Cowboys are expected to overhaul their entire defensive line this offseason, and getting rid of Crawford's massive contract ($10.35 million) would give them more cap room to play with. Don't be surprised if they try to re-sign Crawford on a cheaper deal if they do release him.
DT Cedric Thornton
Thornton was largely disappointing after being signed from the Eagles, recording just 22 tackles and a sack and a half in just 13 games. He's on the books for $4.25 million next year, making him the second-highest paid DT on the roster behind Crawford. He simply wasn't productive enough this year.
