Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Everson Walls is tired of seeing the team's secodary struggle, and the retired four-time Pro Bowler and Texas native sounded off on the unit in a recent radio interview on the Shan & RJ Show on 105.3 KRLD-FM.
Via the Dallas Morning News:
“It’s pretty bad. I talked about [Morris] Claiborne. To me, he’s the most solid one that played last year. That’s sad really. He didn’t get any interceptions. He did make some plays on the ball a lot. A lot of incomplete passes came his way, but when you look at how he played, it made [Brandon] Carr’s play look even worse. I don’t think Carr tackled anybody or anything.”
Claiborne has been on unquestioned NFL Draft bust, but he stepped us his game in what's a contract year. However, Claiborne is still just an average cover guy who has shown no ability to make big plays on the back end.
As for Brandon Carr, his five-year, $50.1 million will come to its merciful end after the 2016 season. Viewed by many as one of the worst cover corners in the NFL, Carr hasn't recorded an interception since 2013.
Cornerback is going to be a major point of emphasis for the Cowboys this offseason, whether it's in the NFL Draft, via free agency or both.
