Cowboys Rumors: Demarcus Lawrence Wants To Stay With Dallas "For The Rest Of My Life"

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence has been one of the best players in the NFL this season, leading the league with 8.5 sacks through five games before the team's bye last weekend.

Lawrence is in the final year of his contract and is due for a massive pay raise from the $1.17 million he is making this season, and while he says he is not thinking about that next deal, he does want it to come from the Cowboys, according to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

But the Dallas Cowboys top pass rusher isn’t concerned on his contract status. At least not publicly.

“We'll talk about that when the time comes," Lawrence said on Thursday. “I'm just going to keep racking up my numbers, and we've just got to get the job done as a team. If the team wins, we all win. That's the main thing.”

Lawrence, 25, said that he would “love to be a Cowboy for the rest of my life.” But it remains to be seen whether that will ultimately happen.

Lawrence, who was suspended for the first four games of last season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, has had back surgery each of the last two offseasons. As such, Dallas may choose to use the franchise or transition tag to keep him around without giving him a long-term deal.

The 25-year-old has 24 tackles and two forced fumbles to go along with those 8.5 sacks this season.
