The Dallas Cowboys cut RB Darius Jackson late last season to make room for Darren McFadden, a move not everyone liked after Jackson showed promise in the preseason. Now, Jackson is back on the open market after the Cleveland Browns (who claimed him during the season) released him with an injury designation.
However, those hoping for a reunion shouldn't get their hopes up. Mike Fisher of Scout.com and 1053 The Fan reports that the knee injury Jackson is currently dealing with has scared off the Cowboys.
"We don’t know about the severity of that injury, but we know, via two sources this afternoon, that the Cowboys aren’t especially interested in putting in a claim on an injured player — even one who was once thought to be good enough to maybe hold off Darren McFadden for playing time in Dallas," Fisher writes.
The 2016 sixth round pick didn't play for Dallas last year, but was on the roster until McFadden was activated. Three teams put in waiver claims for Jackson, with the Browns winning as a result of having the worst record. He didn't see any time in Cleveland and there's a good chance he reverts back to the Browns' injured reserve list.
The Cowboys currently have Ezekiel Elliott, Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris and UDFA Jahad Thomas as the notable running backs on the roster. It's a position the Cowboys could make some moves at once the 53-man roster cuts arrive, especially if Morris doesn't make the roster.
