The Dallas Cowboys got the quarterback they wanted when they drafted Mississippi State's Dak Prescott in the fourth round. Prescott dropped a bit in the eyes of some teams because of a DUI he received in March, and that was an issue when he intereviewed with teams.
"It was the elephant in the room," Prescott said, via ESPN. "It's something in the past. It's something that I can guarantee everyone won't happened again. It was a mistake, but it's going to make me a better person and it already has."
However, the Cowboys said that after researching the situation, they still felt comfortable with Prescott.
"We all know that we make mistakes," owner Jerry Jones said. "Well, you can mitigate those things quicky in your mind because that's where his strength is, in that area of character and judgment and those things. We do feel that it easily let us get by those issues. It's certainly something you should look at with the quarterback spot, but when you really look at it what is impressive is that from everybody around him, the recommendations he got from everybody and the time spent with him, we don't think there's character issues here."
Prescott is expected to serve as a backup to Tony Romo this season. He passed for 3,793 yards with 29 touchdowns and five interceptions his senior season to go along with 588 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
