The Dallas Cowboys have Dak Prescott as their franchise quarterback and they re-signed Kellen Moore. But they don't appear done adding help at QB. ESPN's Todd Archer reports he thinks the Cowboys will add at least one more player at the position for depth.
"They will add a quarterback, if not two quarterbacks," Archer writes. "They need the arms just to get through the offseason work and training camp."
Archer adds that Jamiell Showers likely won't move back to quarterback after making the switch to safety last year. Nor does Archer think a big-name Colin Kaepernick type will be signed. A trade also won't happen.
But Archer does toss out the name Luke McCown as a potential veteran pickup. McCown would be a much cheaper option for the Cowboys than a Kaepernick-esq player. Finally, Archer does think a QB could be selected.
"Before picking Dak Prescott in the fourth round last year, you have to go back to Stephen McGee in the fourth round of the 2009 draft to find the last quarterback they drafted," Archer said. "That's a long time. I believe they will add a quarterback in the draft, but not until the middle rounds, like the fourth. Among the list of pre-draft visitors this year, there isn't a quarterback among the group, but that doesn't mean they won't pick one."
It's a down QB class and the Cowboys are without a 5th round pick this year. But they have two 7th round selections and could spend one a QB with the hope they develop him into a reliable backup.
