The Dallas Cowboys have shuffled their QB depth behind Dak Prescott. Zac Dysert, recently waived by the Arizona Cardinals, is in and undrafted free agent rookie Austin Appleby is out. The Cowboys announced the move Monday.
Since the Denver Broncos drafted Dysert in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, he's been a journeyman QB. He's never played in an NFL game, but has bounced around various practice squads and was active late last year for the Cardinals. Dysert has been a member of the Bears, Dolphins, Texans and Bills in addition to the teams previously mentioned.
It's an upgrade at QB depth for the Cowboys, as Appleby wasn't great for the Florida Gators last year. Even if Dysert doesn't make the roster, he gives the Cowboys better backup QB competition for Kellen Moore (and UDFA Cooper Rush). He faces a tough task of picking up the offense and beating out staff-favorite Moore, but Dysert does have a shot.
Dysert was a record-setting QB at Miami (OH), breaking Ben Roethlisberger's all-time passing yards record. It's not a coincidence that Miami didn't win a game the year after Dysert left. The 27-year-old stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 221-pounds.
