As expected, Orlando Scandrick's time with the Dallas Cowboys is coming to an end. Ian Rapoport reports that Scandrick has requested his release from the Cowboys.
The Cowboys were expected to part ways with Scandrick this offseason, either via a trade or a release. Dallas has young corners in Jourdan Lewis, Chidobe Awuzie and Anthony Brown and are moving Byron Jones back to corner this year.
There simply wasn't room for a 31-year old corner coming off a back injury. Scandrick has a $5.28 million cap hit this year, with the Cowboys able to save $1.4 million by cutting. If the Cowboys make him a post-June 1st cut, they can save $3 million, but can't use that during free agency.
The Cowboys could (and have been attempting to) trade Scandrick rather than cutting him. However, Scandrick appears to prefer an outright release so that he can pick his new NFL team.
This is a developing story. Refresh for updates.
