Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is expected to be fined "millions of dollars" by Commissioner Roger Goodell, the New York Times' Ken Belson reported Monday.
According to Belson, Goodell is prepared to fine Jones after Jones attempted to threat Goodell's contract extension negotiations plus Jones publicly advocating for Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott to avoid a suspension after the NFL had investigated domestic violence claims against Elliot.
Jones will be required to pay the legal fees that the committee incurred defending itself, as well as the legal expenses the NFL spent defending its decision to suspend Elliott.
Belson reports the punishment will be announced in the coming weeks. A Cowboys spokesman said the team was unaware of the penalties according to the Times. The NFL has yet to comment to the Times also.
